Traffic Recording And Profiling (TRAP) Service Review

A Review of the JISC RSC London Network Monitoring Service – TRAP
by Bernard Aghedo

The Traffic Recording and Profiling Service (TRAP) records information about network
traffic and turns that into simple colour coded graphs that can tell a busy network
manager what is going on at a glance in their network. The information is available either through a simple to use web interface to view ‘live’ data or as regular weekly e-mail reports that records the previous week’s network usage. From this, providers can then generate reports in much greater detail if necessary.

TRAP was originally custom-written for the JISC RSC London to help network managers or technical contacts in our supported learning providers. It is funded by the RSC and provided by the University of London Computer Centre.
